Plein Air at Beavertail
Be ready for the plein air season with this workshop designed for both aspiring and experienced artists who want to develop the fundamentals of outdoor painting.  The workshop focus will be on capturing the light and shadows and color relationships using a limited palette.  Mark will start each day with a quick demonstration.  He will discuss composition, equipment and how to simplify the plein air process.  Painting outdoors presents unique challenges but with guidance it becomes second nature – no pun intended!  Open to all media:  oil, water soluble oil, watercolor and acrylic painters.  Portable easel required.  Locations TBD.
Mark Fernandez, Plein Air Painter, Portsmouth Arts Guild
Mark is a New England painter following a long line of artists trying to capture the beauty found along the rugged coast, mountains, and coastal towns of the region. His painting challenge is trying to capture, on location, the way light transforms the spectacular and the ordinary into something stunning. He will also work in his studio/ gallery on paintings using his plein air paintings, sketches, and photos for reference.
Education:
Mark is primarily a self taught painter but he has received instruction in workshops and night classes from Plein Air painters David Lussier, Randall Sexton, John MacGowan, Jill Carver, and Colley Whisson among others.
He also has a back ground in Jewelry Industry and BFA in ceramics in 1976 from Coe College.  Find examples of Mark’s work on his website at Mark Fernandez Art Works.
