Are you eager to enhance the visual impact of your paintings through the skillful use of color? Join Sam for a immersive 2-day workshop on “Applying Color.”

This 2-day workshop is designed to deepen your understanding of color theory and empower you with practical concepts that you can effectively apply to your own artistic practice.

How does one apply color theory to their everyday practice? For too many of us, color theory involves color charts, wheels, squares and other silly shapes that are seemingly useless and/or too difficult to apply to everyday use. The goal of this workshop is to help you determine when and how color theory is actually applicable to your work.

During this workshop, we will investigate many of the fundamentals of color theory, examining concepts such as, hue, value, saturation, complementary colors, analogous colors, and more. Through thoughtful discussions, inspiring examples, and interactive exercises, you will gain a solid foundation in color theory principles. Following these foundational lessons, students will spend time making and correcting paintings from their own source material.

Here’s how the day will unfold:

Demos begin at 9:00 am sharp at the Portsmouth Arts Guild.

BYOL – Lunch will not be provided.  Please plan to bring your own lunch, beverages and snacks.

The day will end with a group crit with your day’s work. around 3:30 wrapping up around 4:00pm.

About Sam

Sam Allerton Green paints often, both inside and outside. The majority of his work is done plein air, on site, in a single session. This forces him to focus on capturing what it feels like to be there, rather than simply replicating what he sees.

Sam grew up in Providence, and studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has been an artist in residence at The Creative Alliance at the Patterson in Baltimore, MD, and the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT.
