About the Prudence Island Quilters Guild
Cindy Buckley is the current President and Wendy Davis is an active member of the Prudence Island Quilters Guild. Nearly 31 years ago, on September 27, 1987, the Prudence Island Quilters Guild met to provide a “social outlet and a common creative interest for island residents, one of the group’s goals was to promote quilting itself, which, according to those who participate in the craft in all stages of expertise, is very rewarding. It is creative and relaxing, to the point of being therapeutic. The group determined that in addition to working on their own projects, they would come together on a project for charity — something that have done at least once a year, every year since. “ ~Christy Nadalin, “Crafty Islanders Practice Time Honored Art”, EastBayRI.com, August 6, 2018. Current charities include The Holly Charette House, Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, which provides transitional housing for female veterans, as well as Habitat for Humanity and Water for Cambodia.
The Portsmouth Arts Guild looks forward to hosting an exhibit of the work of the Prudence Island Quilters each year.
