Figure Drawing

SUNDAYS Beginning SEP 20 | 3PM-5PM
Join us for Sunday drop-in sessions led by Mi Ok Song, focusing on drawing the human figure.  Each session includes a combination of demonstration and guidance, completing figure drawings, and positive group discussion to reveal progress and improvement of technical skill throughout each session..

Working from a live model, the format will be a warm-up of three 5-minute poses, a five-ten minute break, then twenty minute poses with five to ten minute breaks for verbal feedback.  Instruction and guidance will be provided during each pose.

Whether you’re working to sharpen your observational skills or deepen your understanding of figure drawing fundamentals, Figure Drawing offers a rare chance to slow down, look closely, and go out on a limb. All skill levels are welcome, including beginner, intermediate & advanced. Please join us for a dynamic, informative, engaging & mostly fun learning experience.
  • LOCATION: Portsmouth Arts Guild
  • DROP IN COST PER SESSION: $20

Mi Ok Song

Post-pandemic, I have continued to participate in figure drawing, always seeking new approaches to drawing the human figure, particularly hands & feet.  I believe that drawing the human figure is the most difficult subject matter & challenge myself with drawing only in pens—colored, black, white, gray & wash.  I frequently draw on gray paper, white Bristol Board & white watercolor paper.

Within the last few years, I have been incorporating my Korean cultural identity & adoption-related imagery into my drawings.  I am encouraged by seeing more diversity of artists in RI.  I am grateful that Angell Street Galleries represents more multicultural inclusivity.

For me, drawing is the adventure, the journey & the destination.  Joan Miro says, “Drawing is like taking a line out for a walk.”  With each drawing, I take the line out for a walk & see where it leads me.

I hope that you, the viewer will experience the adventure, the journey & the destination in my drawings.

Thank you,

Mi Ok Song
