Special Effects in Still Life Painting
Judy Vilmain
Glass, Water, Silver, Metal: These are some of the most important staples in still-life paintings. But they can be tricky to render.
I don’t know about you, but I like to have recipes — I don’t want to reinvent the wheel each time I start a new canvas. This fun, fast-paced workshop will teach you the fundamentals of rendering each of these materials. You will learn how to make glass always look like glass, and silver always look like silver. Time permitting we also address how to easily paint stripes in fabric. We will go over the simple, step-by-step formulas for each of these special effects. I will do a demonstration or two, and you will practice the methods yourself. And, of course, I will give you handouts, so you will have guides when you are happily painting in your own studio.
The Materials List for this workshop is pretty simple:
- Bring all your usual painting gear; paint in any medium you like.
- You will be painting at least six smallish, fast paintings, so no need to bring anything bigger than 9″ x 12″ canvases or panels.
- Bring a few big brushes, at least 1/2″.
- Any kind of tape.
- LOCATION: Portsmouth Arts Guild
- MEMBER COST: $225
- NON-MEMBER COST: $260
