Plein Air 2025
Join the Portsmouth Arts Guild Plein Air artists as we paint in various locations around Aquidneck Island and beyond. Bring an easel to create a masterpiece or simply a chair and sketchbook to enjoy a sketch. We paint for two hours then meet up for a friendly, optional sharing of work. There is no critique. All abilities are welcome as we are a supportive and encouraging group and these drop-in sessions are free and open to all.
To receive the weekly schedule sign up for the detailed PAG Plein Air newsletter.
Please contact artistswelcome@portsmoutharts.org with any questions.
Rain will automatically cancel the event.

First (Easton’s) Beach, Newport
TUES, APR 22, 4–6:30PM
What better way to celebrate Earth Day then to head to Newport and paint over 1,300,000 daffodils and counting! Across from Easton’s Beach the daffodils abound this time of year. Turn 180 degrees and paint stunning surf and beach shacks. With any luck the Del’s lemonade truck will be there for a tasty treat. Let’s get daffy!

Fort Adams, Newport
TUES, APR 29, 4–6:30PM
Before the summer crowds arrive, let’s explore the many views at Fort Adams. Paint the 200-year-old fortress or, if you prefer to tackle boats, the choices range between dinghies and keelboats to the tall ship The Oliver Hazard Perry.

Warren Town Wharf
TUES, MAY 6, 5–7:30PM
A working wharf, Warren Town Wharf serves as a base for harbormaster activities, oyster farming operations, and many recreational activities. It is a hub for tourism in the area with quaint storefronts and restaurants dotting the wharf. Grab a snack at the café and sketch the harbor or a street scene.

Park Ave, Portsmouth near Shultzy’s Snack Shack
TUES, MAY 13, 5–7:30PM
Enjoy the views of clam shacks, the beach, boats, or the 1950’s beach homes. And stop by the Guild to drop off your work for the “An Ocean State of Mind” exhibit.

Bristol Narrows Fishing Area
TUES, MAY 20, 5–7:30PM
At the end of Narrows Rd. in Bristol. Enjoy painting the boat launch, fishermen, and quiet and secluded sandy beach.

Prescott Farms, Middletown
TUES, MAY 27, 5–7:30PM
An actual working Colonial era farm. Challenge yourself to sketch/paint the windmill or enjoy the views of the brook, historic buildings and gardens.
