Join watercolorist, Joel Popadics, on a Plein air workshop in picturesque Rhode Island. Learn how to capture the feeling of light and atmosphere in your paintings on this 3-day workshop for all levels.
Each day we will meet at a different location. Morning and afternoon sessions will begin with a painting demonstration. Topics will include; how to capture a light effect, painting harbors, buildings, boats and mixing greens for the landscape. After the demonstration, you’ll have an opportunity to paint and apply the concepts presented. Individual instruction will be provided throughout the day.
Bring lots of paper, plan on doing 2-3 sketches per day and perhaps extra for “do-overs.” Make sure you have Cadmium Lemon Yellow, Cobalt Blue, French Ultramarine and Ivory Black plus whatever selection of colors you’re comfortable working with.
About Joel Popadics
He has been teaching watercolor at the Ridgewood Art Institute in Ridgewood, NJ for over 30 years and is a popular workshop instructor. He has a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and has been a professional artist his entire career. In his own work and teaching, he has adapted the unique palette of the American Impressionist painter, Frank Vincent DuMond, to watercolor. In particular, DuMond’s use of landscape green. Green is notoriously troublesome for many artists, but Joel’s approach makes it easy to understand and enables artists of all levels to mix convincing colors for their landscapes.
