All Photography Juried Show

The Portsmouth Arts Guild is proud to present the juried entries to our annual Photography Show. Our thanks to Juror Cindy Wilson and to all who submitted their work to this exhibit.
Juror’s Statement:
As a juror, I evaluated the works presented based on freshness of vision. Show me something new, not a thing but a unique, personal way of seeing. In conjunction with the call for entry title, the muse would be that unique perspective, guiding principle that inspires the creation of the artwork. Images chosen for recognition fulfilled this criterion.
Bonnie Jaffe’s work of reflection is like a montage…layers so intertwined as to create a new reality.
Jack Heller’s piece is woven with deep mystery. There is a narrative created by dark tones and the use of negative space surrounding a human silhouette.
Marc Jaffe’s image of a nebulous figure reaching out fingertips touching the folds of a shower curtain freezes a moment many of us would never deem photographic.
Each artist responds to their own inner vision of recognition, observation, and capture, whether intentionally or intuitively. The muse behind these three works is individual and varied. There is no one way of seeing the world, only our authentic response based on what we value. The camera becomes the tool by which our muse becomes a visually manifest. ~Cindy Wilson
