Upcoming Plein Air Events 

Join the Portsmouth Arts Guild Plein Air artists as we paint in various locations around Aquidneck Island and beyond. Bring an easel to create a masterpiece or simply a chair and sketchbook to enjoy a sketch. We paint for two hours then meetup for a friendly, optional sharing of work. There is no critique. All abilities are welcome as we area supportive and encouraging group and these drop-in sessions are free and open to all. Please email if you have any questions –artistswelcome@portsmoutharts.org. Rain will automatically cancel the event.

Tuesday, May 7

5:00 – 7:30pm

Ragged Island Brewing Company, 54 Bristol Ferry Rd, Portsmouth. Enjoy the 37 acres of farmlandand woods of this farm brewery and with any luck we’ll see an amazing sunset. Take a break and sample their many brews including many fan favorites and a rotating menu with new options weekly.


Tuesday, May 14

5:00 – 7:30pm

Sandy Point Beach,  620 Sandy Pt Ave, Portsmouth. This shallow, natural beach is  located on the Sakonnet River at the end of SandyPoint Avenue and has some  amazing scenic views to paint.

Tuesday, May 21

5:00 – 7:30pm

Paradise Valley Park, 19  Prospect Ave, Middletown. Paint at this 30-acre scenic treasure with walking trails and a most unusual windmill.


Tuesday, May 28

5:00 – 7:30pm

Bristol Ferry Town Common, 789 Bristol Ferry Rd, Portsmouth at the junction of Bristol Ferry Rd and Bayview Ave, Portsmouth, RI. This quiet, historic common is currently maintained as a public park, with great views of the coastline, the Mount Hope Bridge, and Mount Hope Bay.
