Beginner Watercolor Boot Camp

Anne Wert

Watercolor is one of the most beloved and accessible painting mediums, and this one-day workshop is your perfect introduction.  In five hands-on hours, instructor Anne Wert will walk you through the essentials to create everything from soft, dreamy washes to crisp, defined edges. You will cover all fundamental watercolor techniques, including washes, wet on wet, wet on dry, dry brush, etc. Learn the importance of planning first, so that you can then play with water and let the paint do its beautiful, unpredictable work.  

No experience required, and no perfection expected. Part of what makes watercolor so captivating is its spontaneity — the way paint blooms, blends, and surprises you. Anne will help you embrace that quality from the start, turning happy accidents into part of your process. By the end of the day, you’ll leave with a foundation of skills to build on, and a new creative outlet that can go anywhere that you can take with you with a brush and a glass of water.

Anne Wert

Anne P. Wert is an artist and educator. After a career as an elementary school teacher, Anne spent many years living and painting overseas in Europe and Asia before eventually moving with her family to Rhode Island. Her fine art work focuses on landscapes, most recently of scenes inspired by her travels and living in coastal New England.

She works in both oil and watercolor, mostly from her studio, but still enjoys plein air painting when possible.

In addition to being an Artist member at the Providence Art Club, the Rhode Island Watercolor Society, and the Art League of Rhode Island, she is also a member of the New England Watercolor Society, and the American Watercolor Society. Her paintings and illustrations have been shown and juried into galleries around New England, and are in private collections around the world. She is currently a painting teacher at several locations in and around RI/MA.
