Entering Your Art
The Portsmouth Arts Guild is now using online exhibition entry, Smarter Entry. Once logged into Smarter Entry, please select the show to which you are submitting. Please contact us at email@example.com for assistance.
If you are new to Smarter Entry, here are a few tips:
Unlike many submission services, when submitting through Smarter Entry, you pay for your entries first. A submitting artist purchases entry credits for a particular show (called a competition by Smarter Entry). He or she then uses the credits to submit his/her entry or entries.
Where applicable, member discounts are entered with a promo code PAGMEM. It must be entered in the Promo Code field when paying for entries to be applied.
Photos of artwork should be sharp and well-lit. Your success depends as much on the quality of the submitted photo as it does on the quality of the art.
- Don’t photograph your painting behind glass.
- Don’t include mat or frame in your photo.
- Make sure the lighting is as uniform as possible – photographing outdoors on a bright overcast day works well.
- For 3D artwork entry submit one overall front image.
- If you can, crop and straighten your photo.
- Download the form to attach to your entries for in-person intake.
When submitting entry details about your painting, dimensions listed must be framed dimensions for 2D artwork, measured to the OUTSIDE OF FRAME. For 2D artwork provide H x W. For 3D artwork provide H x W x D,

The following entry guidelines are generic and may change based on each exhibit’s specific requirements. Please review the current Call for Artists requirements as well as these guidelines before submitting an entry.
Member and Non-Member artists may submit up to three works unless the current Call for Artists is stated a Members Only show. All work is accepted for non-Juried shows. If the current Call for Artists is a Juried show all submissions will be judged, and work may not be accepted for display. Artists not accepted for juried shows will be contacted personally.
All mediums are encouraged and accepted unless the current Call for Artists has medium restrictions. All photography exhibits would be an example of medium restrictions.
2-D works MUST be wired for hanging – NO saw tooth hangers.
Unless otherwise specified, submitted works MUST NOT have been previously exhibited at the Portsmouth Arts Guild and must be current.
All work must be for sale and the Guild commission is 25 percent.
Entry fees: Guild Members – $20.00 for the first entry and $5.00 each additional. Promo codes for members will be available. Non-Members, $25.00 for the first, $7.50 for the second and $7.50 for the third.
Entry Fees are paid online through the Smarter Entry link in the Call for Artists.
